Sombre Speakeasy is a prohibition-era bar in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The bar’s brand is inspired by a 20’s aesthetic adapted for the modern twenty-something crowd. The brand thrives on a sense of secrecy that comes along with being unidentified by signage and other traditional marketing practices. “Sombre” is the french translation for “darkness” and to visualize this core concept of luxurious darkness I utilized a dark greyscale palette. This also gave Sombre an effortless and chic brand personality. My process for creating this brand included extensive ideating and collage compiling to establish the core of the brand personality. Sombre Speakeasy is for anyone who read The Great Gatsby and was dying to go to one of his parties “among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars”.
