I believe this project really developed from the amount of time spent ideating and rendering good thumbnail options, so I included the in-process sketched to give the project a broader context. As the project progressed I found myself using the process to really weed through my ideas to find the best design solution.
I also really personally enjoyed this project because it allowed me to share my opinion through visual language. I chose to create my editorial image based on an article titled “Psychiatry’s Mind-Brain Problem”. The journalist, George Makari, discusses how in an attempt to de-stigmatize mental illness psychiatrists have begun prescribing more medication than is efficient or necessary.
By treating mental illness solely as a biological imbalance it is implied that psychological and social events do not affect the brain. The best treatment focuses on both the cognitive and biological factors of mental illness. “What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality” - Plutarch
